Roadway Naming Rules

The following rules should be adhered to when naming or renaming a road:
 

· Avoid family names or individuals names (especially first and last name together and politicians)
 
· Avoid sound-alike names (e.g., Maine St and Main St)
 
· Do no use the same name with a different suffix, as this does not constitute a name change (e.g., Smith Dr, Smith Ln)
 
· Avoid special characters, such as apostrophes or hyphens
 
· Avoid using a standard suffix as a part of a roadway name (e.g., Court St, Avenue Ln)
